DONA Certified Birth Doula
Ever since I had my first child I have been drawn to birth and pregnant women. Now, as a mother of three and a doula since 2002, my interest has evolved to an actual passion for supporting women as they birth their babies. I believe every woman deserves to feel safe, nurtured and empowered during this remarkable transformation in her life. I strive to create an environment that is serene yet energized. I’m here to support your choices and give you the opportunity to have the birth experience that you have envisioned. My knowledge of birth comes from years of assisting women. I have attended well over a hundred births. I have experience with both hospital and home births and have attended births with both doctors and midwives. I have assisted single mothers, women with same sex partners, women attempting VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) and women whose pregnancy has been categorized as “high risk”. I am a DONA (Doulas of North America) certified doula and a member of LIDA (Long Island Doula Association). I have attended countless continuing education seminars to hone my skills and knowledge base.
In addition to my doula work, I am also a licensed Physical Therapist. As a practicing therapist, I am comfortable with massage and other manual techniques that help to ease the discomfort of labor. My knowledge of the body helps me to give sound advice with regard to position changes that augment the progress of labor. As I assist women, I do not seek to replace her partner in birth. I look to support the laboring mother in a manner very different from her loving partner. My goal is to provide information and comfort to the birthing couple so that the partner can support the mother without fear and anxiety. I am available to help explain medical terms and procedures for couples so that they feel empowered to make the right decision for their family during the birthing process.
A woman carries her birth story with her for life. It becomes a part of who she is. My goal is to help you to cultivate and achieve your goals during labor and delivery which I believe will help you to bond with your baby and provide a smooth transition into motherhood. It is always an honor for me to be invited to help a woman have her baby in the way that she chooses, feeling supported, safe and nurtured.
