Gina Tucker

Birth Doula

Before Labor

I will meet with you and your partner at your home before labor to become acquainted, to explore and discuss your priorities, address any fears or concerns, and to discuss your birth plan.  I will want to know your own best ways of coping with pain and fatigue and how you and your partner work best together.

I work with another experienced doula who backs me up for all my births in the rare event that I am unable to attend your birth. You will have the opportunity to meet my back-up partner at the pre-natal visit.  We will come to your home at a convenient time for you and your partner.  I am also available for unlimited phone consultations throughout your pregnancy.

When you are in Labor

When you suspect labor has begun, we are in contact with each other.  I can help you figure out if this is labor or not.  I can also answer questions and make suggestions over the phone.  Together we can decide if it is the time for me to join you or to wait for further change.  I usually meet you at your home and labor together with you there.  For hospital births, I can help you make the decision on when is the best time to leave home and travel to your birth place.   I will travel in the car with you to help you feel safe and comforted while your partner drives.  I will remain with you throughout labor and birth.

After the Birth

I will remain with you for one to two hours after the birth, until you feel comfortable and your family is ready for quiet time together.  I will take photographs, if desired so you can enjoy those precious moments without having to stop to capture them on film.  I will help you with initial breastfeeding and provide suggestions for positioning to help the baby to latch correctly.   I will return to your home within a few weeks after the birth to review the experience with you, share pictures and answer any questions you might have about your birth.
